[Notice of the seminar on "Preventing Infectious Diseases with Novel Modalities" on Tuesday, October 19]

The outbreak of the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus since the beginning of 2020 has reminded us how important it is to develop and research vaccines and therapeutic agents, and to respond to contingencies, from infectious disease control to immunization programs.

In this context, the Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo (IMSUT), in collaboration with the Institut Pasteur of France, will hold a seminar (100% online format) to overview the current status, challenges, and prospects of new infection prevention through new modalities such as mRNA vaccines and crisis response by medical administration, among the disruptive innovations that occurred during the corona disaster. The seminar will feature leading researchers from Japan and abroad, including Prof. Drew Weissman (U Penn), a pioneer in mRNA vaccine development and research, and Prof. Yasuhiro Suzuki, Vice President of the International University of Health and Welfare (former Vice-Minister & Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare), who was involved in Japan's medical crisis response. The panel discussion will be open to the public.
